Devon Excalibur Team 2010:

Fencers from all around the County made up the 6 weapon Devon team for this years Excalibur Cup. The event was held at Bath University over the weekend of the 1^st and 2^nd May.  The Excalibur Team Trophy Cup is a weekend long competition where 12 counties from England and Wales field teams to compete against each other. There are prizes for the best individual result in each discipline, the best team result in each discipline and obviously the Cup goes to the best County overall.

Devon fielded a team made up of many old faces but it was nice to see some fresh blood without which the team meal on Saturday night would clearly not have been so eventful!!

Devon finished 7^th in the final placing’s which was a much better result than anticipated. We had great success in the weapon placings with our Men’s foil team being caught in a 3 way barrage where each of the teams had only lost to each other. The winning team was decided by who had the most victories so we finished in joint second place. The Women’s foil team also finished in 2^nd place so Congratulations to Warren Shillingford (Salle Lawrence), Jason Shillingford (Salle Lawrence), Fred Verret (Salle Lawrence) and Tim Cross (Salle Lawrence) from the Men’s Foil and from the Women’s Foil Grace Williams (Sidmouth), Jenny Harwood (Sidmouth) and Maggie Myers (Wellington).

In the Individual Toni Denham came 3^rd in the Women’s Epee and many more of the individuals in Devon teams were placed in the top 10 of their discipline including Jason Shillingford, Warren Shillingford, Fred Verret, Jenny Harwood, Grace Williams, Rhiannon Lawrence and David Stewart-Watson.

The event was extremely successful said County Captain Rhiannon Lawrence. “It was so good to see everyone cheering their team and representing their County. The fencing from some of our fencers was top class but the effort from everyone was immense. Thank you very much everyone for your support this year, let’s hope next year will be even better”.

Women’s Sabre: Ros Hull (Truro Fencing Club), Lucy Williams (Sidmouth), Christine Worthington (Salle Lawrence Tavistock) and Charlie (U/A).
